REPORT: Trial of Habib Shartouni adjourned until July 7
Head of the Judicial Council Judge Jean Fahed presided on Friday over the trial investigating the assassination of former President-elect Bachir Gemayel at Beirut's Justice Palace.

The trial, in which fugitive Habib Shartouni is being prosecuted in absentia over the 1982 assassination of Gemayel, started at 3:00 PM. The court later on adjourned the trial until July 7.

This as Bachir's son and MP Nadim Gemayel, and his cousin MP Sami Gemayel were present.

Tight security measures were taken as supporters of both the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the Kataeb party shortly cut the road outside the Justice Palace as the trial started. The security forces however reopened it later on.
