Truck drivers protest against Syrian competition in Akkar
Lebanese truck drivers staged on Saturday a protest against what they called “the competition coming from the Syrian drivers.”
The protest was held on the Tripoli-Homs international highway in the town of Abdeh in the district of Akkar to protest the companies that hire Syrian drivers instead of the Lebanese ones.
“Some companies are hiring Syrian drivers for trucks owned by Lebanese,” leaving more than 400 Lebanese drivers unemployed,” one of the protesters said.
The protesters vowed to escalate their actions if their demands are not met.
