From torture and sexual harassment to rape,
official authorities count an average of three cases per week, cases of children
who are definitely not living their childhood.
Only a few hours passed on the death of 3-month-old
Ghena Mahmoud Abd al-Razek Hawana that shook the Lebanese society, before another case is brought to light:
an 8-month-old baby was rushed to Rafik Hariri University Hospital with bruises,
scars and burns in several parts of his body.
In a similar context, an 8-year-old girl was
sexually harassed in Sidon. Despite the fact that the perpetrator is now behind
bars, many abusers like him are still enjoying their freedom at the expense of our
children.
Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abu Faour
told LBCI that Lebanon is waking up to an alarming new phenomenon. Abu Faour
added that each person who physically assaults or sexually abuses a child must
know that he will not go unpunished, stressing the important role of the
judiciary in this regard.
