Connelly meets with Charbel, praises efforts of LAF and ISF

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Thursday that the ministry is ready to organize the parliamentary elections on time, or following a technical postponement, stressing that the LAF and the security forces are dealing firmly with the security issue in Tripoli to preserve stability and to put an end to the clashes.               

Following his meeting with the US ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly, Charbel pointed out that the issue of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon is deteriorating, and posing a security, social and humanitarian burden on the country, calling on the international community to assume its responsibility in this regard.                         

In this context, Charbel stressed that the government is keen on committing to its decision not to deport any Syrian refugee.                     

A statement issued by the US embassy in Lebanon noted that the discussions between Charbel and Connelly tackled the political and security situation in Lebanon, where Connelly stressed that the democratic process in Lebanon is a crucial factor to achieving stability.                         

The ambassador also praised the efforts deployed by the Lebanese Army and the Internal Security Forces to restore peace in the region.
