REPORT: HIC remains divided as two meetings separately held

The Higher Islamic Council (HIC) remains divided on Saturday as two conflicting groups are holding two separate meetings instead of the monthly periodic meeting.

The Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani held a meeting at Dar el-Fatwa whereby he discussed the modernization of the Dar el-Fatwa institutions.

Meanwhile, another meeting was held at the private office of the head of the administrative and financial committee Engineer Bassam Barghout who considered the appointment decisions issued of the Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani as “null and void.”

In this regard, the conferees decided to keep their meetings open-ended to follow up on what they called “special conditions witnessed by Dar al-Fatwa.”
