Criticism amid crisis: Aid ship docks in Gaza amidst regional concerns

Report by Toni Mrad, English adaptation by Yasmine Jaroudi

After two days of anticipation, a ship belonging to the Spanish charitable organization Open Arms arrived in the Gaza Strip as part of the maritime corridor between Cyprus and Gaza announced last week.

According to the NGO, the ship carries 200 tons of food supplies intended for the Palestinian Red Crescent to receive and distribute to Palestinians on the brink of famine.

While these aids may not be sufficient for Gaza, they align with American plans to increase assistance by constructing a temporary floating seaport off the coast of Gaza.

However, this step has faced criticism from Egypt.

The governor of Sinai argued that it is ineffective and cannot replace the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

Moreover, Cairo has reservations about its establishment but has not raised them with the concerned parties.

Egypt is interested in bringing more aid into the Gaza Strip despite its concerns about keeping the land crossings closed and restricting aid delivery only through sea and air routes.
