A Christian perspective: Bou Habib's critique of Mikati's actions

The ambassadors of the Quintet Committee will resume their tour of political references, and informed sources consider this movement "nothing more than a symbolic presence, knowing that it is impossible to breach the presidential election file."

Sources said the ambassadors "have begun to feel desperate about the possibility of providing a ground for the presidential elections."

"Al-Akhbar" learned that the head of France's foreign intelligence, Nicolas Lerner, who visited Lebanon on Wednesday, did not carry any threatening messages related to the southern Lebanon front, and he confirmed to those he met that there is no new French initiative.

He also stressed that the Quintet ambassadors' movement does not entail any practical ideas in the presidential file, except for the Qatari movement, which has something to say, in coordination with the Saudis, but "not necessarily with the Saudi ambassador in Beirut."

Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib "exploded" his hidden dispute with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, accusing him of "encroaching on my role as foreign minister and of repeated attempts to curtail the ministry's powers personally."

Bou Habib said in a televised interview that Mikati "does not consider that we are in a pluralistic country, and as a Christian, I do not accept his actions, as he encroaches the highest Christian position."
