Macron awards Indian Prime Minister the Grand Cross Legion of Honor

French President Emmanuel Macron has awarded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi the honorary rank of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, as announced by the Élysée Palace on Friday.

The French presidency stated that "this distinction pays tribute to the role of the Prime Minister in the excellent relationship of friendship and trust" between Paris and New Delhi.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend the military parade on Friday morning at the Champs-Élysées alongside President Macron, as part of the National Day celebrations.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Paris and New Delhi, which France aims to strengthen in order to have a significant presence in the Asia-Pacific region. However, India faces accusations from non-governmental organizations of adopting a power-centric approach.

Napoleon Bonaparte established the insignia of the Legion of Honor in 1802, which includes five ranks from Knight to Grand Cross.
