UK raises fines for employing or housing illegal immigrants

The United Kingdom government has raised fines for employers and property owners who allow undocumented immigrants to work or rent, as part of new measures to curb immigration.

The Conservative government, facing a decline in popularity ahead of the upcoming general elections next year, is seeking to halt the flow of migrants crossing the English Channel by boat.
