Patriarch Rai: Lebanese leaders brought the country to edge of a cliff
Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai asserted on Sunday that the Lebanese leaders brought the country to the edge of the cliff by leading it to the extension of the parliament’s mandate, the vacuum in the legislative authority and leading it toward the unknown.

Rai’s comments were made during his Sunday's sermon in the northern town of Batroun whereby he noted that "the sole hope for the country’s salvation lies in the leaders with good wills who are seriously deploying their utmost efforts to draft a new vote law and sparing the country the dangers of extension and vacuum.”

Lebanese leaders are still struggling to draft a new vote law that would govern the next parliamentary polls.

Deep disputes between the rival parties have thwarted any agreement over a new electoral law.
