The meeting tackled urgent economic issues that concern the state and the people, stressed the need to preserve the pluralistic system and tackled means to transition towards a civil state and the formation of a national committee to eliminate sectarianism. The official also emphasized the need to approve administrative decentralization, reiterating rejection to resettlement of refugees.
On economic level, the meeting stressed that Lebanon has to implement a comprehensive economic plan in order to guarantee growth, create job opportunities and ensure balanced development, calling for reviving the socioeconomic council as soon as possible.
During the meeting, the cabinet was requested to implement the plan aimed at investing the offshore oil wealth, while completing all legal procedures and adopting transparency as main standard for work at all institutions.
The meeting, deemed the first of its kind during the mandate of President Michel Aoun, included Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Speaker Nabih Berri, MP Sleiman Frangieh, Minister Talal Erslan, MP Mohammad Raad representing Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Minister Marwan Hamadeh representing MP Walid Jumblatt, MP Agob Pakradonian, Minister Ali Qanso, Minister Gebran Bassil and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea who attended the meeting after he had apologized for not being able to attend and was supposed to be represented by Minister Melhem al-Riachi.
