Clashes in Tripoli come to a halt with truce declaration

Four shells fell on Friday evening between Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tebbaneh and were followed by heavy gunfire exchange, while the National News Agency reported sniping operations in Syria Street.

Meanwhile, a number of young men in Tripoli received text messages in Tripoli stating that the battles will renew during the night to revenge those killed in Talkalakh.

Cautious calm prevailed in Tripoli following the deployment of the LAF in areas of contention and the declaration of a truce between Tripoli's Bab el-Tebbaneh and Jabbal Mohsen. Earlier, sporadic gunshots were reportedly being heard as a reminder of the battles that prevailed throughout the night.

Tripoli’s areas of Bab el-Tebbaneh, Jabal Mohsen, el-Kobba, al-Mankoubin, al-Riva and al-Mallouleh witnessed the fiercest clashes on Thursday night.
The use of B7 and B10 missiles as well as Energa shells were heard in areas which are relatively far from the scene of the clashes.
The death toll in Tripoli reached 9 persons killed and 70 others wounded.

On Friday at 7:00 AM the violence came to a halt and the Lebanese Army deployed its forces in the region and in Syria St.

For his part PM Najib Mikati called for a Supreme Defense Council meeting on Sunday at the Baabda Palace to discuss the situation in Tripoli.
