Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's political career is full of controversy, as he inherited the political mantle of his father Rafik Hariri, after his assassination in 2005.

He then became the most prominent Sunni leader on the Lebanese political scene, after the Future Movement and the March 14 Alliance won the parliamentary elections in 2005 and 2009.
