Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said Wednesday that the Interior Ministry is the authority responsible for the implementation of the law in terms of expatriates’ voting, noting that there is cooperation between the Foreign and Interior Ministries.
During a joint press conference held with Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq, Bassil emphasized that the Foreign Ministry is at the disposal of the Interior Ministry regarding of the elections abroad, pointing out that the Foreign Ministry had opened the door for online registration according to the law, and attempted to extend the deadline but the request was rejected.
He added that the expatriates’ voting will take place in 6 Arab states on April 27 and in 34 foreign states on April 29, noting that the Foreign Ministry informed all the concerned countries of the electoral process in accordance with each country’s law.
“It was not easy but we overcame all obstacles,” he said.
In this regard, Bassil called on any international monitoring body wishing to oversee the electoral process abroad to do so, explaining that his ministry decided to install cameras at all ballot centers in order to live stream the process.
