Geagea says rejects any official contact with Syrian government

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea stressed Wednesday that he will not accept any communication between the Lebanese government and “what is called the Syrian government since it does not exist,” noting that any minister wishing to visit Syria can do so in a personal manner, but not officially on behalf of Lebanon.

Geagea called on the cabinet to take a clear decision in this regard under the current circumstances.

In a press conference held in Maarab, Geagea said that the cabinet was formed based on the principle of putting all conflicting matters aside and taking care of the people’s affairs.

“The agreement based on which the cabinet was formed has been violated in many ways, including Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s lashing out at Gulf States,” he explained.

The LF chief expressed his surprise by some ministers’ intention to make official visits to Syria, raising question marks over the possible reconstruction of Syria.

“Is Syria’s reconstruction possible when a political solution has failed to be reached so far?” he asked.

On another note, he noted that there are governments such as Turkey and Jordan that found solutions for the refugee crisis without contacting the Syrian regime.

“The Lebanese army’s mission is to attack the Islamic State and eliminate them from the mountainous regions along the borders, other than that, it has nothing to do inside Syria,” he stated.
