REPORT: Army launches offensive against ISIS militants
The Lebanese Armed Forces launched on Saturday an assault against a Daesh (ISIS) enclave near the border with Syria, vowing to eradicate terrorist groups.

"In the name of Lebanon, the kidnapped soldiers and the blood of the martyrs, and in the name of the heroes of the great Lebanese Army, [we] declare the launch of 'Fajr al-Joroud Operation' in the outskirts of Ras Baalbek and al-Qaa [towns]," Army commander General Joseph Aoun said announcing the beginning of the offensive in a tweet at 5 a.m.

This as the army artillery and rocket units targeted Daesh positions in the outskirts of the two towns. Army helicopters were also firing at the militants.

The engineering units in the army are working on removing mines and explosive devices planted by the militants.

This as sources told LBCI that the militants are relying on explosive devices and mines to block military progress.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Red Cross said that 175 volunteer medics with 45 ambulances were deployed in three different points the area and ready to provide medical assistance to the military if need be.
