The Parliament ended its session on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Speaker Nabih Berri.
During the session, Berri postponed all proposed draft laws related to the pay scale, pending the decision of the Constitutional Council in this regard, stressing that these draft laws will be included in the agenda of upcoming sessions.
The draft law pertaining to the Friday/Sunday weekend was also postponed and linked to the challenge presented against the tax hike law.
This measure triggered the objection of the MP Khaled al-Daher who said that this delay will aggravate the problem.
On another note, the Parliament responded to the statement made by US President Donald Trump, whereby he spoke of settlement of refugees.
The Parliament referred to the paragraph (I) from the Lebanese Constitution’s Preamble that states: “Lebanese territory is one for all Lebanese. Every Lebanese shall have the right to live in any part thereof and to enjoy the rule of law wherever he resides. There shall be no segregation of the people on the basis of any type of belonging, and no fragmentation, partition, or settlement of non-Lebanese in Lebanon.”
Following the session, a meeting was held between Berri, Prime Minister Saad Hariri and a number of ministers from different blocs.
