Kataeb Party Chief Samy Gemayel said that “what happened today is a constitutional revolution against the logic of deals and closed meetings,” noting that the citizens will be able to practice real accountability through this revolution in the legislation.
“Important laws should not be proposed without discussing their effects on all levels,” he stated.
In a press conference held to comment on the Constitutional Council’s decision to repeal the new tax law, Gemayel noted that they will be forced to pass the budget where they will ensure all the funds to be spent, noting that according to the Constitution, spending should never happen outside of the budget.
He stressed that the pay scale is a right for the citizens, addressing the officials he added: “You must put an end to corruption and waste, the salaries will be paid because the funds exist and the $800 million paid by the bank should cover the salaries; otherwise tell us where that money went?”
