Aoun addresses Lebanese people on occasion of Independence Day

President Michel Aoun stressed that he is seeking to protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence and to preserve its stability amid the regional storms, so that the process of building the state can continue.

In a message addressed to the Lebanese people on the eve of the 74th Lebanese Independence Day, Aoun noted that he declared in his oath that his top priority is to prevent any spillover of regional conflict into Lebanon, stressing the need to disassociate Lebanon from foreign conflicts and respect the charter of the Arab League.

In this context, the president stated that Lebanon has been disassociating itself, but others have not disassociated themselves from interfering in its affairs.

“Despite our victory over terrorism, we continue to raise question marks over its origin and who sent it to us and funded it?” he asked.

President Aoun emphasized that Lebanon cannot be exploited as long as its national unity continues to stand against strife.

The president also told Arab states that dealing with Lebanon required wisdom; otherwise the country would be pushed "towards the fire".

“In spite of all that we are going through, our hopes remain on the Arab League to take the initiative based on the principles, goals and spirit of its charter,” he added.

Aoun addressed the International Community, which is aware of the importance of Lebanon’s stability, calling upon it to defend the country through complete application of international justice.
