REPORT: Merkel after meeting Hariri: Refugees must return when conditions are safe

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri asserted on Friday that all political forces agreed on preserving the internal stability of the country and committing to the self-dissociation policy.

 

Hariri’s comments were made after meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel whereby he noted that Lebanon’s duty is to receive the refugees, adding however that the country does not seek to take funds for refugees.

 

“We are waiting for a comprehensive solution to develop our economy,” he noted.

 

For her part, Merkel announced that Germany will help in moving forward with reforms in Lebanon, stressing that the return of Syrian refugees must take place when it is safe for them to return.

 

She also noted that Germany is committed to support and help Lebanon, adding that Berlin wants to help in reaching a political solution in Syria in order to guarantee the return of the refugees.
