President Michel Aoun informed Monday Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in the Netherlands Sigrid Kaag that the next government will pay special attention to the economic situation and anti-corruption process, while handling all other matters of interest to the Lebanese people amid the security stability prevailing in the country.

Aoun welcomed the cooperation between Lebanon and the Netherlands in all economy and trade fields, stressing keenness on activating this cooperation and develop it to include all other sectors.

 

The president also expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Netherlands for participating in the conference to support Lebanon held in Rome, Paris and Brussels, appreciating the willingness express by Kaag to host a conference by her country to pursue the support provided by Cedre conference participants.

 

Prior to her appointment as a minister, Kaag was the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Lebanon.

 

At the beginning of the meeting with Aoun, Kaag expressed her happiness to be back in Lebanon as a Minister of Foreign Trade, recalling the conditions during which she worked in Lebanon.

 

She also congratulated the president over the success of the parliamentary elections and the upcoming formation of a new cabinet, reiterating her country’s continuous support to boost cooperation with Lebanon, mainly on the economic and agricultural levels, in order to face the repercussions caused by the Syrian displacement to Lebanon since 2011. She stressed that Lebanon is capable of playing a pioneering role in the region, especially when Syria’s reconstruction kicks off.
