The Internal Security Forces Public Relations Branch issued a statement declaring that the ISF's Information Branch has accomplished a quality operation by thwarting a plan by the Islamic State to target an army checkpoint and a church in Lebanon.
The terrorist plan was to be implemented by a Lebanese national, a previously 3-year Roumieh prison inmate, identified as H. S. (born in 1995), who is affiliated to the organization and is in direct contact with their leadership in Syria.
During the interrogations, he admitted to contacting a relative in Syria after being released from prison, asking for help in moving to Syria and joining the fight within the ranks of the Islamic State. He also confessed that his relative told him to forget moving to Syria and focus on working for the terrorist organization in Lebanon, including the implementation of terrorist attacks targeting Lebanese army members and checkpoints in the north. He was also asked to target a church.
The detained also said that he approved these tasks and he was excited to implement the attacks against the army and the church, noting that he was waiting for his relative to send him the weapons and the explosive belt.
In addition to this, the security forces also arrested the Lebanese national A. S. (born in 1999) in Wadi al-Nahle.
During the interrogations, he stated that (H. S.) asked him to accompany him to Syria to join the Islamic State and he accepted.
