Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil hoped that the Iraqi cabinet will be formed soon, and that the quick formation also happens in Lebanon.
Following his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Bassil expressed hope that, following the opening of Nassib border crossing, the borders between Iraq and Syria will offer an economic relief, stressing that Lebanon and Iraq conquered extremism due to the people’s cultural and intellectual capabilities.
He also hoped that stability will prevail in both countries so that the relations can become economically effective.
Answering a question on the cabinet formation developments, he said: “Fair representation is being achieved, which will allow the cabinet to be formed by a decision from the president and the prime minister.”
Asked a question on the issue of the Lebanese Forces and the Justice Ministry, the minister stated that “it is not his place to tackle this issue and this is not the time to discuss these details.”
For his part, the Iraqi minister stated that the relations between Lebanon and Iraq have been good and both countries have common grounds, adding that serious efforts are underway to open the border crossing.
On the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, al-Jaafari said that “this event has been surprising and bizarre,” stressing that Iraq supports Human Rights.
