Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that they are working on finding a solution for a political issue, noting that they are concerned with resolving this obstacle on the basis of sharing the responsibility with other parties.
Following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri at the parliament, Bassil stated that “the Future Movement, Hezbollah and the independent Sunni MPs must contribute to the solution,” rejecting any attempt to incite.
He also explained that whatever the nature of the obstacle, it is considered a national issue since it has been preventing the formation of a national unity government, stressing that the obstacle can be resolved by returning to the principles and criteria of the representation.
“The adopted criterion for the formation is the number of deputies,” he said, pointing out that the proof is that the Kataeb and SSNP blocs will not be represented.
“Any solution based on resignation of PM-designate Saad Hariri will not be valid,” he stated, emphasizing that they want him to be strong in his duty for the cabinet to strong in turn.
