Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed Monday that “Lebanon registers the highest rate of refuge and displacement in the history of human kind, reaching 200 per one kilometer, in addition to being located on the intersection of regional, international, national and religious conflicts that have been costing its economy hundreds of billions of dollars.”
Speaking at Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe Orderly and Regular Migration held in Marrakech, Bassil noted that “Lebanon humanly welcomed those fleeing the Palestine and Syria and has borne the burdens alone,” adding that Lebanon deserves everyone standing in its respect.”
“I call upon you to support the only solution for the collective displacement, which is the voluntary, safe and sustainable return of the Syrian refugees to their country,” he said.
