Washington halts college scholarships for Palestinian students in Lebanon

A number of Palestinian students, who pursue their studies at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU), were informed that the US Administration has decided to halt all scholarships provided by the United State to the Palestinian students.

In this regard, sources told LBCI that two meetings were held today at the AUB and LAU, in the presence of a representative of the US Embassy in Lebanon, as well as university administrative workers and Palestinian students.

The embassy representative told the students that he received a message from the US Administration, deciding to completely halt all scholarships granted through the US-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) to those students as of January 31.

The representative added that Washington clarified that the decision is not only limited the MEPI program, but affects all students benefitting from all US scholarships programs.
