Cabinet meets for first time after confidence vote
The cabinet held on Thursday its first session at the Baabda Presidential Palace presided by President Michel Aoun and in the presence of Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
 
At the beginning of the session, the ministers observed a minute of silence for late ministers: Robert Ghanem, Edgard Maalouf, Sleiman Mohammad Rida al-Zein and Salim al-Jahel.
 
This as Aoun congratulated the Cabinet for garnering the vote of confidence, noting that hopes are pinned on the new Cabinet which “put great responsibility upon it.”

At the end of the session, Information Minister Jamal al-Jarrah said that President Aoun ended the session after a heated debate erupted about the relation with Syria.
He also noted that aoun stressed during the session on the need for the return of Syrian refugees to their country without linking the issue to the political solution.
For his part, Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil stressed on the need to “expand relations with Syria to the maximum level, and that in favor of Lebanon,” adding that the constitution stipulates that.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Defense Elias Bou Saab said that he did not object the safe zone in Syria during the Munich conference.
This as State Minister for Refugee Affairs Saleh al-Gharib said that noting “will deter us from carrying out our duty in order to fold the page on the past.”
