President Michel Aoun called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to help Lebanon in facilitating and speeding up the return process of the refugees to Lebanon.
During his meeting with UN High Commissioner for refugees Filippo Grandi at Baabda Presidential Palace in the presence of State Minister for Presidential Affairs Salim Jreissati, Aoun stressed the need to maintain cooperation with UNHCR and coordination with the Lebanese administrations concerned in the issue of the refugees.
He also emphasized the need to provide the refugees with the needed assistance after their return.
The president stressed the cooperation of the Syrian authorities with the Lebanese sides concerned with organizing the return, including the Lebanese General Security.
Grandi had briefed President Aoun on the field tour he conducted to a number of Syrian regions, where he inspected the conditions of the refugees who returned there, pointing out that these conditions are reassuring.
Grandi also praised the support received by the UNHCR from the Lebanese officials, in order to be able to perform its humanitarian role.
