The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Friday in a statement “the ugly terrorist crime that took place in New Zealand inside a mosque where worshipers believed it is safe and a haven for prayer and tolerance."

The statement added that "Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil had previously warned against the escalation of the extreme right in Western societies, and that for several reasons, as he warns today against the rise of leftist radicalism, as a reaction to it putting communities at great risk.”
 
The statement noted that Lebanon remains a country of moderation and tolerance in this world full of radical ideas.”
 
He concluded by calling for preserving the country to serve as a model for coexistence between religions and cultures."

At least one gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 20 during Friday prayers at two New Zealand mosques in the country's worst ever mass shooting.
