UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis held a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, after which he said that “prior to the Security Council session scheduled for next week in New York, he wanted to discuss several issues with Hariri, including means for the government, ministries and political forces to support the reform process that the cabinet intends to launch.”
“The main steps to be taken are passing a new budget as soon as possible and one that includes a significant reduction in the fiscal deficit,” he stated.
He added that he also discussed with Hariri the outcome of Brussels 3 conference and the message confirming an urgent need to ensure a safe, voluntary and dignified return of Syrian refugees according to the international humanitarian norms, noting that the UN humanitarian committee will continue in facilitating this return at the same time supporting the host communities in Lebanon.
