President Michel Aoun reiterated that the most difficult challenge imposed on Lebanon by the region’s wars remains the Syrian refugee crisis, which turned into an issue that goes beyond the countries capacity and ability to bear the burden of its repercussions, mainly regarding the harm inflicted on the environment, due to the absence of infrastructure capable of meeting the needs of at least 1.5 million refugees.
During the “Lions Mediterranean Conference 2019,” Aoun said that “what concerns Lebanon is the International Community’s insisting on linking the refugees’ return to the political solution in Syria,” stressing that this will delay this return for an unknown date.
He hoped that the Lions Clubs International will deliver this message of suffering, including the suffering of the Syrian refugees, to urge the world to help in their return to their country and lands as soon as possible.
On another note, he stressed that “a clean nature is a right for every human being,” emphasizing that a sustainable development is among his priorities, since it is key in solving the problems of the president and meeting the needs for practical preparations for the requirements of the future.
He also insisted on imposing the implementation of the hunting law in order to regulate the hunting of birds, stressing that he seeks to turn Lebanon into a safe passage for migrating birds.
