Speaker Nabih Berri met Friday with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and they discussed the need to maintain stability in Lebanon and to sort the issue of the maritime borders, which includes Lebanon’s special economic zone.
Pompeo said that the United States, with the efforts of the United Nations, seek to help in resolving the situation, starting with a solution for the maritime borders.
Talks also focused on the US sanctions against Hezbollah and their negative repercussions on Lebanon and the Lebanese people.
Speaker Berri stressed that the laws passed by the Lebanese Parliament go in line with the international laws and ensure transparency in financial trading, emphasizing that Hezbollah is a Lebanese party in the Parliament and the Government.
He added that Hezbollah's "resistance is a result of continuing Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory.
