Mouawad: It is in Lebanon’s interest to reject US decision concerning Golan Heights

Head of the “Independence Movement” MP Michel Mouawad called on all Lebanese to unite against the US decision to declare Israel’s sovereignty on the Syrian occupied Golan Heights, urging all the parties to work together at all international conferences to prevent this Israeli goal from being achieved.

Mouawad emphasized the need to stress that the Golan is a Syrian occupied land and that the decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty on Golan represents a violation to all international laws and threatens peace in the region.

“The continuation of seizing occupied Arab lands is an abortion for all peace efforts and the right of the Palestinians to return to their lands; it also fuels violence and extremism at the expense of moderate rhetoric,” he said, adding that all kinds of decisions, regardless of their source, cannot change the identity of the land.

Mouawad urged the Lebanese officials to set up a clear plan through the Arab League, the United Nations and the powerful states to exert pressure on Syria to demarcate the borders between Lebanon and Syria as soon as possible, starting from the south, stressing the importance of sending maps signed by both countries to the United Nations to confirm Lebanon’s right over Shebaa Farms and Kfarshouba Hills, as well as the Lebanese part of al-Ghajar village.
