Lebanese leaders condemn Sri Lanka attacks

Lebanese leaders condemned on Sunday the attacks that took place at Sri Lankan churches and hotels, killing 138 people and wounding more than 400.

 

President Michel Aoun said that "the need has become urgent for unified International efforts to address and eradicate terrorism."

 

“We extend all our solidarity with Sri Lanka and its people against the blind terrorism that targeted its churches on Easter Day, we pray for the innocent victims and we wish speedy recovery for the wounded,” Prime Minister Saad Hariri said in a tweet.

 

For his part, progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt tweeted saying that “If you blow up churches, each one of our mosques is a home for them to pray.”

 

In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks, saying that "once again, terrorism and extremism are targeting safe civilians, which calls for more coordination and cooperation among nations to eliminate them."

 

This as Hezbollah also condemned the bombings, reiterating that “terrorism has no religion,” calling on all believers in the world, regardless of their religious and sectarian affiliations, “to stand united in the face of this serious scourge, whether they are individuals or artificial entities.”

Easter Day bomb blasts at three Sri Lankan churches and four hotels killed 138 people and wounded more than 400, hospital and police officials said, following a lull in major attacks since the end of the civil war 10 years ago.
