Former head of the General Labor Confederation Bechara al-Asmar said Monday that “if there was accountability in Lebanon, all the officials who caused the suffering of the Lebanese people must be held accountable.”
Following his release on a LBP 500,000 bail, al-Asmar said that accessing private councils and recording statements raises question marks, adding that “the objective was to end his role within the GLC.”
Investigative Judge in Beirut George Rizk had decided to release al-Asmar on bail, following an session, during which he listened to the testimonies of the individuals who were sitting next to al-Asmar when he made the insulting comments on late Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.”
