Bassil: Return is a right for Syrian and does not need Intl resolution
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil said on Saturday that the return of Syrian refugees is a right for Syrians and does not need an International resolution.

Bassil’s comments were made during a speech at the 3rd Municipalities Conference whereby he noted that some sides are using the refugees as a political pressure card.

The minister added that Lebanon’s approach to the Syrian refugees “is human and non-sectarian.”

“Whoever accuses us of racism is either a beneficiary or a conspirator,” he added.

Bassil reiterated that Lebanon is no longer able to bear the burden of the displacement, stressing that thousands of Syrian refugees “move back and forth between Lebanon and Syria holding refugee cards,”

“There are safe areas now in Syria,” he added.

Bassil concluded by saying that the International community is not shouldering its responsibility in this regard.
