Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil declared that the tour in Tripoli had been limited to the supporters of the Free Patriotic Movement for security reasons after the threats, reiterating their rejection to the division of Lebanon.
Speaking from Rashid Karami exhibition center in the norther city of Tripoli, Bassil thanked those who gathered to protest the visit, noting that “this is Tripoli, the city that peacefully and freely voices its opinion.”
“We did not take part in the wars of others, neither in the Mountain, nor in Tripoli or anywhere else, we did not set up checkpoints on roads, but we have always been with the army against the militias,” Bassil said, pointing out that he knows the particularities of all the regions and respect them.
The minister announced that they accept the establishment of an economic zone just in Tripoli, which has the priority after they declared that they want the city to be a platform for the reconstruction of Syria.
