Kataeb bloc member MP Elias Hankash said Monday that “the 2019 state budget is bad by the acknowledgement of its supporters,” noting that it is disappointing and includes constitutional violations, whether in terms of deadlines or closure of accounts.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Hankash stated that the 3% tax on imported goods is a disguised Value Added Tax (VAT).
The deputy noted that the cabinet is not capable of committing to the numbers of the budget, pointing out that “national unity government is a fad invented by the political authority to block out accountability.”
Commenting on the waste issue, MP Hankash stated that Environment Minister Jreissati stressed during a meeting for the Metn deputies at the ministry that he is against the expansion of landfills because it is a crime, but he then requested the expansion of Bourj Hammoud landfill, unfortunately.”
In the same context, he called for sorting waste from the source and establishing sorting centers within the scope of municipalities, as well as waste treatment factories within the scope of regions.
On another note, he urged the concerned authorities to control the illegal crossing points, stating that this matter requires political will and decision.
“The finance minister confirmed that there are 136 illegal crossing points, while the defense minister said there are only 10, which represents a blatant contradiction between the ruling parties, but the most important thing is to close them down,” he explained.
