MP Cesar Abi Khalil hoped Friday that the cabinet will convene as soon as possible to avoid obstruction of the state’s projects and the people’s interests, noting that “it seems some parties seek to hold the cabinet hostage.”

In a statement to LBCI’s Nhakom Said, Abi Khalil noted that targeting and doubting the judiciary in the case of Qabrchmoun incident aims at obstructing the authority to resort to a political settlement.

“Our choice is the state and holding the perpetrators accountable without being dragged into a sectarian conflict,” he added.

The deputy explained that the crime took place in Qabrchmoun “after a series of attacks that started by tossing a grenade at a camp set up by Free Patriotic Movement supporters in the town of Kfarmatta and another at Mansouriet Bhamdoun church, before ending with the events of al-Bsatin.”

Commenting on the recent statement issued by the US Embassy in Beirut, Abi Khalil pointed out that “they would have preferred that the US embassy refrains from interfering in an internal affair and this is a misplaced misstep,” calling on all the parties to abstain from dragging foreign influence into internal affairs.
