Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that Lebanon is committed to the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, noting that Lebanon has never attacked Israel, but the latter has been the aggressor every time.
In a joint press conference with his German counterpart Haikou Mas in Berlin, Bassil stressed that Lebanon had previously refused the resettlement of Palestinians, and we now refuse to naturalize Syrians.
“We have felt the desire of more than 80% of the Syrian refugees to return [to their country], and the conditions are now right. We ask Germany to help us push in this direction," he added.
"We are keen on the safe return of the refugees. In the past year, more than two hundred thousand Syrians have been repatriated from Lebanon because the conditions have become suitable,” Bassil explained.
