Forty six Lebanese lawyers participated in two-day training on the conduct of International Criminal proceedings at the Beirut Bar Association (BBA).
The lawyers took part in discussions on international criminal justice and proceedings, as well as advocacy and courtroom techniques. They also heard about victims’ participation before International Courts and about the Rights of the accused in international criminal proceedings. The training continued today with a ‘mock’ (practice) trial in which participants were able to practice their skills.
“This training offered insight into the legal proceedings before international tribunals such as the STL. The mock trial contributed to increasing my practical experience and demonstrated how crimes like genocide and crimes against humanity are prosecuted at the international level,” said Mouaaz Al Ajami, a participating lawyer.
This event is part of the STL outreach efforts to engage with Lebanese legal professionals, academics, the civil society and others through lectures, conferences, roundtable discussions and trainings on topics related to the mandate of the Tribunal and international criminal justice.
