Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing US Department of the Treasury Marshall Billingslea arrived Sunday evening to Beirut on a 24-hour visit, during which he will meet on Monday with Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh and head of the Lebanese Banks Association.
Sources told LBCI that Billingslea will ask the officials about the measures taken against Jamal Trust Bank and to make sure that said bank has in fact become out of the Lebanese banking system, after being blacklisted by the United States.
He will also inform the Lebanese Banks Association that any evidence proving relation of any bank with an individual added to the US terror list, will be see the same fate as Jamal Trust Bank.
In turn, the banks association welcomed Billingslea, stressing the banking sector’s commitment to the international laws on fighting terrorism and money laundering, as well as the implementation of the circulars issued by the central bank in this regard.
