Salameh: US dollar is available and banks are meeting their customers demands

Banque Du Liban Governor Riyad Salameh stressed on Monday that the US dollar is available in Lebanon, adding that news circulated in media outlets and social media platforms is “amplified.”

 

Salameh’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he noted that the BDL has assets in dollars that exceed 38 billion US dollars, adding that is no need to take any measures.

 

He also stressed that the US dollar is available in the banking sector, adding that the Lebanese banks are meeting the demands of their customers.

 

As for the visit of US Treasury Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Marshall Billingslea, Salameh stressed that his visit is welcomed and “has no goal of tightening grips.”

 

"We are in contact with the US Treasury and we care for is Lebanon’s interest and to have good relations because it facilitates the involvement of the banking sector internationally and facilitates the lives of the Lebanese people in all respects," Salameh went on saying.
