Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed Tuesday that their main stance was in favor of a cabinet formed of experts with political background, as well as representatives of civil society, but this proposal was not approved.
Following the meeting of the Strong Lebanon bloc, Bassil explained that they put up with unfounded accusations and they remained silent in order not to obstruct the situation, stressing that their only criteria is implementation, achievement and success.
“The nomination of the prime minister, our participation is the cabinet and our vote of confidence are all connected to the criteria of achievements, work and success and this is our real position,” he stated.
In this regard, Bassil emphasized that the success of the cabinet is more important than their presence in it, adding that “if they wanted us to follow the same course of politics, against which we were standing, then we will simply not participate in the government.”
“Our presence in the cabinet comes second to success and achievements,” he said.
