Caretaker Health Minister Jamil Jabak stressed that the medical equipment is more important than drugs, noting that no surgery can be performed without this equipment, “especially because Lebanon imports everything to the stitching thread.”
In a TV interview, Jabak said that the project that he has been working on since he was appointed minister focused on supporting local medical industry and using local products. “We do not produce primary materials that are monopolized by European and American countries,” he noted, adding that Lebanon can manufacture but not produce raw materials.
In the same context, the minister stated that investor needs a stable and secure atmosphere in order to work and be sure to make profit from their investment, stressing that this is the main issue that the country currently faces.
On the issue of medications, Jabak said that the big project that has been underway for the past five months is related the pricing mechanism of drugs, explaining that an unprecedented draft law on pricing medications has been placed.
“We have abolished the monopoly of medications in Lebanon and placed a modern pricing mechanism,” he reiterated.
“The Lebanese people will be soon informed of a 25 to 30% decrease in the prices,” he announced.
