Hariri says banks and central bank are “not the whole problem”

Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri declared on Thursday following a financial meeting with Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh and caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khlil at Beit al-Wasat, that there will be a new cabinet that will deal with the issue of the Eurobonds, adding that the discussions focused on the financial situation and the banks.

Speaking to reporters, Hariri said that “we must be honest with the people; the country reached this staged because the state failed to implement the reforms.”

“During Paris II conference, Lebanon received $10 billion, an amount that would have been enough to rescue the situation,” he explained, adding that the Lebanese banks and the central bank are not the whole problem.
