Melhem Khalaf: Country’s situation precarious, and responsibility entrusted to lawyers is heavy

Head of the Beirut Bar Association Melhem Khalaf announced that the country was going through a very dangerous stage, and that lawyers bear heavy responsibility.

 

In this context, Khalaf said to all lawyers in a circular: "Each of you has at least two obligations:

- The first obligation is to maintain a high level of communication, to stay away from hate speech, and not to be drawn into inciting sectarian strife.

- The second obligation is to take the initiative to ease the tension around you, in order to fortify civil peace, protect it, and adhere to peaceful coexistence."

He pointed out that the present circumstances are threatening to slip into the worst and fall into the worst at any moment; and lawyers have no other choice but to be up to their mission. 

"I am confident that you are aware of this role," Khalaf concluded.
