Mikati: Looking forward to resuming Cabinet sessions ASAP
Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed on Tuesday that the cabinet was looking forward to resuming sessions as soon as possible “to finalize the decisions required to activate the work of ministerial committees and accomplish what is required of the government as had been announced in the ministerial statement.”
Mikati stressed during a conference at the Grand Serail titled  “Towards reform and recovery: implementing the national strategy to combat corruption", organized by the Ministry of State for Administrative Development, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, that the government was also looking forward to transparently supervise the upcoming parliamentary elections “so that it will be an opportunity for all the Lebanese to freely and fairly express their aspirations and opinions.”
“I am well aware, amid these exceptional circumstances, that the sole way out of the accumulated crises is through supporting the public administration, immunizing it against corruption, and boosting efforts to activate its performance and raise the level of transparency in its practices,” Mikati added.
With regard to the formation of a National Anti-Corruption Committee, Mikati said that practical steps have kicked off to activate it, starting with the election of judges Claude Karam and Therese Allawi.
“The government will work in the first cabinet session to complete the appointment of other members after the nominations are completed,” he added.
