Head of the Lebanese Hotel Association Pierre Ashkar: Tourism sector is “left to the wolves”
President of the Lebanese Federation for Tourism and Head of the Lebanese Hotel Association Pierre Ashkar pointed out on Tuesday that the tourism sector is experiencing a “great frustration,” considering that “everyone is working against this sector.

“The sector is left to the wolves after a relatively good period during the summer, in which domestic tourism was active, but the situation has now significantly worsened, as 2,000 rooms in Beirut hotels remain closed since August 4th, 2020,” Ashkar explained.

He pointed out that “no tourist institution has yet announced parties on holidays,” adding that “nothing encourages for that, “the US dollar to LBP exchange rate continues to increase, no electricity, no water, and no diesel…”

He concluded by saying that “expatriates have always responded to the call, and we rely on their arrival during this period and the ski season.”
