Mikati: What Nasrallah said against KSA doesn't reflect position of Lebanese government

Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Monday that "the adoption of disassociation from Arab disputes, and abstention from harming Lebanon's relations with Arab countries, especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," noting that "from this point of view, our call was to discuss the issue of foreign policy on the dialogue table, in a way to spare Lebanon the unneeded repercussions."

He said in a statement that "what Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not reflect the position of the Lebanese government and the broader segment of the Lebanese people. It is not in Lebanon's interest to offend any Arab country, especially the Gulf states."

He added, "While we call for Hezbollah to be part of the diverse Lebanese situation and of Lebanese affiliation, its leadership contradicts this trend with positions that harm the Lebanese first and Lebanon's relations with its brothers second."

He called on everyone "to show mercy to this country and keep it away from useless polemics, and let us all cooperate to get the Lebanese out of and around the crises in which they are drowning, so we restore the foundations of the state and embark on the required recovery plan."

"By God, have mercy on Lebanon and the Lebanese, and stop the hateful political and sectarian tension," he concluded.
